For many years paddlers in Central Oregon have dreamed of having safe and fun whitewater play features close to home. This year that dream may move a little closer to reality. You are invited to participate in a public discussion to select the best option for potential development at the Colorado Dam on Wednesday, January 23 at 5:50 to 7:00 pm at the Hollinshead Barn at 1237 NE Jones Road.
In the fall of last year, September 11, 2007, BMP&R commissioned a second engineering study to develop a preliminary engineering design which would allow paddlers to flow through the dam at Colorado Street while providing whitewater play features and fish and wildlife habitat. This study will also provide a cost estimate for such a conversion. The Colorado dam was selected for this study because of the number of floaters who are exposed to the dam and the safety issues surrounding it. This study will provide information, for the first time, to determine if developing whitewater features at the Colorado dam is technically and economically feasible. At this meeting BMP&R will be seeking your input to determine which option should be selected for the final cost estimate.
This is your opportunity to provide direct input into the decision making process. BMP&R and the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance would welcome your participation in this important decision. Please take the time to stop by and support BMP&R in this decision making process.
