This is a great opportunity to paddle a new rapid in the low water summer season. The new rapid is created by placing gates in a class II rapid. The gates dictate a new line through an existing rapid. Paddlers must pass through the gates in the required direction (upstream, or downstream) without touching. This requires a high degree of boat control and can be learned from watching other paddlers work the gates. Saturday is a practice day and the course is open to all. Sunday is race day and an opportunity to compare strategies by matching times from start to finish. This is a citizen's race where every finisher is a winner.
