Eagle Colorado is a part of the Sawatch Range which stretches for 100 glorious miles from Marshall Pass to Eagle River, and has 15 of Colorado's 48, 14, 000 ft Peaks. William Edwards was the first man to lay out the town that would later be called Eagle. He was a stock raiser and rancher. The town originally was called McDonald, after Alex McDonald. The name was changed to Eagle on October 5, 1896 when it was sold for taxes, totaling $210.42. Wildlife is abundant in the Eagle Valley, and it is very common to sight large deer and elk populations, whereas bighorn sheep, and eagles are less commonly spotted, and even more uncommon are the black bear and the mountain lion sightings. Amenities in Eagle include a public library, a public golf course, several acres of open space and four developed parks. The featured public golf course is an Arnold Palmer 18 hole course which features a longer playing season because if its mild Eagle County weather. Eagle Colorado also has two elementary schools, Eagle Valley Elementary and Brush Creek Elementary (which opened in September 2001 at Eagle Ranch) and one middle school, Eagle Valley Middle. Eagle is the county seat and has attractive, vibrant and growing commercial districts. Many people come to Eagle Valley to explore the historic landmarks Eagle has to offer giving of an essence of the past. Yet still today in the 21st century, the Eagle Valley is an area which is still growing and developing.
