 Caratunk is located along the Kennebec River and U.S. 201, approximately 42 miles north of Skowhegan in northern Somerset County. Consisting overwhelmingly of rugged, forested industrial land, Caratunk's 100 or so residents live either in the village (year-round) or at Pleasant Pond (seasonal). Seasonal cottages outnumber year-round residences 2 to 1, and Caratunk has a reputation as a recreational center. The Appalachian Trail crosses the Kennebec and through the northern portion of this 52 square mile town. |
