Lake Placid New York River Running Guide

Weather for Lake Placid New York Forecast

Lake Placid, population 2,700, is located in the northern section of the Adirondack Park.  The Adirondack Park is bigger than the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Yellowstone combined.  It's a haven for the harried, providing rest, relaxation and renewal.

There is a variety of attractions to choose from in the Lake Placid region which is considered a substantial attraction in itself. Aside from the Adirondack’s visual splendor, Lake Placid offers natural wonders, Olympic venues for the sports enthusiast, museums for the intellectual and old-fashioned theme parks for the young-at-heart.

With more than 200 miles of trails winding through the Adirondack Park, Lake Placid is truly "Home of the High Peaks".  Cruise along the back roads of Lake Placid and enjoy the scenery up-close, or race down a mountain biking trail at Whiteface Mountain.

During the spring run off, mountain snows melt into this roaring gorge and provide white water rafters with wild Class III, IV and V rapids. This river is well known for its unusually long continuous white water sections. Enjoy the thrill of running famous rapids such as Blue Ledges, Mile Long, and Big Nasty. You will gaze upon spectacular canyon walls, mountains and waterfalls and perhaps even sight a bald eagle or blue heron.  Summer in the Hudson River Gorge is the ideal time to experience this wilderness Class III river in the warm months. The comforts of summer weather allows rafters time to enjoy a swim and riverside lunch in between entertaining rapids. Controlled dam released water enables rafting throughout the warm months. Summer on the Hudson is the ideal time for families to experience this majestic Adirondack river.
