Boone North Carolina River Running Guide

Weather for Boone North Carolina Forecast

Boone is located in a breathtaking valley amidst some of the oldest, most scenic mountains in the world, the Appalachian Mountains.  Although much exploring of this area was done in the 1700's, it was not until 1872 that Boone became an incorporated town.  Boone acquired its name from the famous pioneer and explorer Daniel Boone, who on several occasions camped at a site generally agreed to be within the present city limits

Boone is the county seat of Watauga County with a population of 13,472.  When school is in session at Appalachian State University, the population of the town doubles.  The elevation, 3,333 feet, affects the climate of this area in many ways.  The average temperature in the summer is 70 degrees, while only averaging 35 degrees during the winter months.  Boone also experiences an average of 3 feet of snow fall during these cold winter months.

No matter what the season, Boone is a beautiful place to live and visit.  You can enjoy cross-country skiing, fishing, hiking, biking, rock climbing, rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, golfing, and more.  The Boone area offers scenic country roads, cascading waterfalls, wildlife, and an unsurpassed botanical paradise filled with a variety of plants matched by few places on Earth.
