Put In:  El Portal or Indian Flat Campround
Take Out:  Briceburg or Railroad Flat Campground
Difficulty:  Class III to IV @1000 - 2000 cfs, III to V- @2000 - 4000 cfs , Class IV to V > 4,000 cfs
Gradient:  50 fpm
Run Length:  ~16 miles
Good Level:  1,000 - 4,000 cfs, Optimum 1,500 cfs
Season Comments:  April, May, June
Primary Season:  This section of river only runs in the spring during normal snowmelt
Permit:  None presently required
Character/Similar To:  This river is roadside and can be scouted on the shuttle drive. There are three sections to this river. The first few miles are pool drop class V rapids, from below the Cheveron Station put in expect lots of class IV rapids until Indian Flat Campground. Below the campground the rapids consist of fun pool drop class III.
Hazards:  The rapids above the Cheveron Station put in are much more difficult then the rapids down river.

Land Ownership:  Public
Wilderness:  No
Camping on River:  Indian Flat Campground, it is also an access point to the river.
Location:  In the Pacific Region (CA), 164 miles (2 hours 59 minutes) Southeast of Sacramento
Shuttle Logistics: 

Take Out: To reach the take out take Route 140 towards Yosemite Park. The take out is where the road first meets the river at a small bridge over the Merced.

Put In: From the take out continue driving towards Yosemite Park. There are many access points along this highway.
