Streamflow Comments: 

The North Fork American River at North Fork Dam gauge is about 40 downriver of this run, expect about half the flow for this section.

Season Comments:  April, May, June
Primary Season:  This river runs in the spring during normal snowmelt season.
Permit:  None presently required
Character/Similar To:  Mostly continuous gradient, class IV rapids with a few difficult class V rapids
Hazards:  This run is very isolated, hiking out would be very difficult. About halfway through the run is the Dream Gap Gorge, most of the rapids in this gorge are runnable, only one is portaged often.

Land Ownership:  Mixed public and private.

Location:  In the Pacific Region (CA), 75 miles Northeast of Sacramento
Shuttle Logistics:  Put-in: Take the main road northeast out of Foresthill and proceed 20 miles to Secret House Campground. Continue another 2 miles to entrance to Secret Canyon. Turn left onto a rough road at the point where the canyons drainage crosses the road. Beacroft Trail is less than a mile up the road and is the trail that leads to the river. Put-in below the falls.

Take-out: Generation Gap is usually run in conjunction with the Giant Gap and Chamberlain Falls downstream runs. See appropriate run for take-out information.
