Middle Fork Piru Creek Whitewater Kayaking & Canoeing Trip on the Piru Creek

Put In:  Frenchmans Flat Campground
Take Out:  Lake Piru
Difficulty:  Class III , Class IV , Class V , Portage
Gradient:  62 fpm
Run Length:  16 miles
Good Level:  400 - 1,100 cfs, Optimum 1,100 cfs
Season Comments:  January, February, November, December
Primary Season:  This section runs in the winter, usually after a few days of heavy rain
Permit:  None presently required, but there is a small fee at the take out.
Character/Similar To:  Low volume creek that flows through a scenic deep gorge.
Hazards:  If there is more then a few hundred cfs at the put in dont run this section because it would be very difficult to portage around the big rapids 2/3 of the way down
Water Craft:  kayak
Land Ownership:  Public
Wilderness:  No
Camping on River:  Frenchman's Flat Campground at the put in.
Location:  In the Pacific Region (CA), 360 miles (5 hours 53 minutes) Southeast of Sacramento
Shuttle Logistics: 

Take Out: In the small town of Piru take Piru Canyon Road to Lake Piru. The take out is at Reasoner Launch Ramp. While paddling on the lake to reach the take out, it is mandatory for paddlers to stay within 100 feet of the west shoreline.

Put In: From the take out return to Piru. Take Highway 126 east to I-5. Take I-5 north to the Templin Highway Exit, from here drive north to the put in at Frenchmans Flat Campground.
