North Fork Cosumnes River - Upper Run Whitewater Kayaking Trip on the Cosumnes River

Put In:  1-2 miles below Capps Crossing
Take Out:  Sciaroni Road
Difficulty:  Class IV + , Portage
Gradient:  172 fpm
Run Length:  7.8 miles
Good Level:  200 - 400 cfs, Optimum 300 cfs
Streamflow Comments:  There is no gauge for this river
Season Comments:  January, February, March, April, May, November, December
Primary Season:  This section of river runs in the winter and spring, usually after a few days of heavy rain and during normal snowmelt.
Permit:  None presently required
Character/Similar To:  Very low volume creek, lots of rapids and consistant gradient.
Hazards:  There are a lot of sieves on this run, and rocks in unforunate places. Be prepared to scout alot and possibly portage

Location:  In the Pacific Region (CA), 45 miles (50 minutes) East of Sacramento
Shuttle Logistics: 

Take Out: From Placerville take Highway 49 south from Highway 50. In 3 miles turn left onto Pleasant Valley Road. Turn right onto Buck’s Bar Road in 5 miles. In 5 miles you will arrive at Somerset, from here cross E-16 and take Grizzly Flat Road 12 miles to Capps Crossing Road. Continue straight onto Sciaroni Road and drive 3 miles to the take out.

Put In: From the take out return to Grizzly Flat Road and take Capps Crossing Road 7 miles to N.F. Route Six. Turn left and drive to Capps Crossing, continue north for 1.5 miles to Van Horn Creek and turn left onto Bonetti Road. Drive down the road for about 1 miles and look for a small trail on the left leading to river level.
