North Fork Feather River (Poe Run) Whitewater Kayaking Trip on the Feather River

Put In:  Poe Dam
Take Out:  Poe Powerhouse
Difficulty:  Class IV + @ 500 - 1,000 cfs , Class V > 1,000 cfs , Portage
Gradient:  70 fpm
Run Length:  7.5 miles
Good Level:  800 - 4,000 cfs, Optimum 1,500 cfs
Streamflow Comments:  There is no gauge for this section of river.
Season Comments:  March, April, May
Primary Season:  This section only runs in the spring during peak snowmelt when the Poe Dam is spilling over.
Permit:  None presently required
Character/Similar To:  At low flows this run contains fun tight technical rapids, at high water the drops become very pushy and technical.
Hazards:  Portage Porters Portage Rapid and the drop below on river left. These rapids are 2 miles down river of the put in.

Land Ownership:  Mixed

Location:  In the Pacific Region (CA), 68.4 miles (1 hour 19 minutes) North of Sacramento
Shuttle Logistics: 

Take Out: From Oroville head east on Highway 70 and turn right onto Big Bend Road, about a mile from the Highway turn left onto a dirt road towards Poe Powerhouse.

Put In: Continue east onto Highway 70 until the Poe Dam. Put In below the dam at a large parking area.
