Put In:  Bear Creek
Take Out:  Boy Scout Camp
Difficulty:  Class II + @ 500 - 1,000 cfs , Class III @ 1,000 - 3,000 cfs , Class IV > 5,000 cfs , Portage
Gradient:  28 fpm
Run Length:  6 miles
Good Level:  500 - 5,000 cfs, Optimum 2,000 cfs
Season Comments:  January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, November, December
Primary Season:  This section of river runs winter through the summer, it is also a popular destination for tubers during the summer
Permit:  None presently required
Character/Similar To:  At low flows, during the summer, this run is a great class II run with one class III rapid, perfect for beginning kayakers. At medium to high flows this run becomes continuous class IV, swimming at high levels can be dangerous because there are few places to get out of the river.
Hazards:  2.9 miles below the put in there is a bridge that has a large hole and can be easily portaged on river right. Swimming on this section at high water can be very dangerous because it can be very difficult to get to shore. During the summer, low flows, watch out for tubers and out of control rafters.

Land Ownership:  Public, private property at the put in.

Location:  In the Pacific Region (CA), 54.5 miles (1 hour 10 minutes) Northwest of Sacramento
Shuttle Logistics: 

Take Out: To reach the take out head west out of the small town of Rumsey. In 2.1 miles you will reach an old stone house on the right. This area has good parking and great river access and makes a great take out.

Put In: From the take out continue upriver on Highway 16 for 6 miles. Put in at the confluence of Bear Creek and Cache Creek. There is a large parking area on the left side of the road, this area is on private property so be respectful.
