Put In:  Calkins Flat Primitive Camping Area
Take Out:  Salmon Creek Falls turnout
Difficulty:  Class IV +
Gradient:  60 ft/mi
Run Length:  2.1 miles
Flow Information (phone):  Kern River Flow Phone: 760-367-8821 (local) or 877-537-6356 (toll free)
Good Level:  1500-3000 cfs
Season Comments:  May, June
Primary Season:  Flows here are 500 cfs lower than the flow at Kernville. Water is taken from the river and run through the powerhouse at the beginning of the "Powerhouse Run".
Permit:  None presently required
Character/Similar To:  The river leaves the road through Chamise Gorge. This a short but beautiful canyon with several class IV and IV+ drops.
Hazards:  Make sure you don't miss the takeout. Salmon Falls (Class VI) is just downstream.
Water Craft:  kayak,wwcan,raft
Land Ownership:  Mixed
Wilderness:  Briefly through Chamise Gorge.
Camping on River:  Campsites along the river.
Location:  In the Pacific Region (CA), 300 miles South of Sacramento
Shuttle Logistics:  Take-out: To reach the take-out travel Northeast from Bakersfield on Hwy 178 about 40 miles to the town of Lake Isabella. Turn left on Hwy 155 to Wofford Heights and continue four more miles to Kernville. Turn left on
Sierra Way and continue 12.2 miles upstream to a turn out on the right side of the road at Salmon Creek Falls.

Put-in: Continue upstream for 2.1 miles to Calkins Flat Primitive Camping Area.
