Enfield, CT to Hartford, CT on the Connecticut River

Section 1: Enfield Dam to the I-91 Bridge - This stretch of river is the only section containing whitewater. Enfield Dam is considered class III at all water levels. At high levels this section contains many class II/III rapids. At lower flows this section is shallow and rocky but still runnable. In this part of the river there are no powerboats aloud.

Section 2: I-91 Bridge to Farmington River - This section of the river is very shallow in most places. In the current there are many sand bars and shallow rocks. On this section there are few powerboats unless the river is 4 feet above normal levels.

Section 3: Farmington River to I-84 Bridge - This section is all flatwater, expect to see a few shallow spots that are clearly marked. Beware in this area because small powerboats roam freely.

Section 4: I-84 Bridge to Charter Oak Bridge - This section is wide open and contains a few well-marked shallow spots. Watch out for powerboats in this area, this portion of the river is maintained for commercial boat traffic.
