Camas Creek on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River

Camas Creek is one of the best of the Middle Fork tributaries for class V boaters due to the multitude of challenging rock gardens and tight, steep slots. There are at least ten class IV drops with several class V's sprinkled in. It starts meandering through a meadow, and after about three miles, drops in to a constricted gorge. Camas Falls is the first serious rapid, and almost all the rapids on this run should be scouted. The best stretch of the river is about three miles up from the confluence. The water settles down after this until it joins the Middle Fork.
