| Johnson Creek on the Salmon River-South Fork |
Two outstanding rapids mark the beginning and end of this run. In between there are about four miles of class II and III busy water. Deadhorse rapid starts around a hundred yards from the put-in. It begins with a long rock garden. After a series of ledges, the river pinches between two boulders in a ten foot slot that drops six feet onto a boulder in the middle of the river. Depending on the flow, either hitting the boulder or surfing a nasty cushion are probable. The river then turns hard left. Stay to the inside. A sweet rock garden leads into a fun play hole. The last rapid is a steep boiling mess due to the confluence of the two rivers.
