Take Out:  Warm Springs Creek
Difficulty:  Class IV

Permit:  None presently required.
Character/Similar To:  Excellent scenery and solitude make this one of Montana's most popular whitewater runs and one of the Rockies best one day wilderness trips. Four intense rapids with considerable stretches of easy water in between characterize this stretch of river.
Hazards:  Kitchen Sink Rapid. High water; very difficult above 4,000 cfs.
Water Craft:  kayak,raft
Land Ownership:  All BLM except at the take-out, which is private land with public use permitted.
Wilderness:  Yes
Camping on River:  Public campgrounds at Red Mountain and along the lower river. No overnight camping in Bear Trap Canyon.
Location:  In the Rocky Mtn Region (MT), 111 miles South of Helena
Shuttle Logistics: 

Put-in: Follow US 287 to McAllister, about 6 miles north of Ennis in southwestern Montana. Turn east toward Ennis Reservoir and drive along the north shore to the bridge over the narrow outlet arm of the lake. Immediately beyond the bridge, bear left and drive 3 miles to the launch site just above Madison Powerhouse.

Take-out: Return to McAllister and drive north on US 287 about 10 miles to the hamlet of Norris. Turn right on Montana Hwy 84 and drive east about 6 miles to the take-out where the highway first meets the river, or continue about two miles to an alternate take-out at the Norris-Bozeman Bridge.
