Saranac Lakes Chain on the Saranac River

Bartlett's Carry, lies just out of view behind a small island, but a large white sign labeled CANOE CARRY points the way. This is a long and steep 0.5 mile carry to Middle Saranac Lake.

About 1 mile down the last channel you will reach a hand-operated lock. If a lock tender is not on duty when you arrive, directions for operating the lock are printed on a large wooden sign next to the doors. Once you go through the channel opens up to Lower Saranac just 1 mile later.
