Permit:  None presently required.
Character/Similar To:  The French Broad has good sized, complex whitewater that tumbles through some nice mountain scenery. Poor water quality due to industrial polution and natural sediment.

Camping on River:  Stony Bluff National Forest Campground is three miles south of Hot Springs on NC 209.
Location:  In the Southeastern U.S. (NC), 273 miles West of Raleigh
Shuttle Logistics:  Put-in: To reach the put-in from Asheville, North Carolina, take US 19/23 north to the US 25/70 cutoff toward Marshall. Take the Marshall bypass to Walnut, turn left and proceed down the mountain to Barnard.

Take-out: From Walnut proceed eleven miles to the US 25/70 bridge over the French Broad, just outside Hot Springs. The take-out is on river right just upstream of the bridge.
