| Streamflow Comments: |
The gauge for this creek is located on the west bank of the river on the downstream side of Monitor Bridge. A minimum flow for this creek is 5.5 ft on the gauge. It usually takes a couple of days of hard rain to bring this creek to a runnable level. Another place to check the flow is from the Scotts Mills Bridge in Scotts Mills. If most of the rocks are covered in water then the creek should have enough water to run. |

Take Out: From Silverton head northwest on Oregon 213 for 5.2 miles. The take out is at Jacks Bridge. Or you can take out 2 miles upstream in Scotts Mills.
Put In: From the take out head back towards Silverton on Oregon 213, take a left onto Mt. Angel Scotts Mills Road. Drive through Scotts Mills, and just outside of town turn right onto Maple Grove Road, shortly after that veer right onto Butte Creek Road. Follow this road for about 4.5 miles until you reach a turn off on the right near some houses. In a half mile you will reach the put in at a bridge that overlooks Butte Creek. Put in below this bridge. Do not scout this run from the road because most of the property off the side of the road is private. |

Mile 1(Bridge): Use the bridge for a marker of the first significant rapid on the run. This is a 5 foot ledge, at higher levels this becomes a very clean drop, but at lower water there could be great potential for a piton. Also just below the bridge is a river wide log that you can float under at low water, at high water portage river-left. If you portage here stay close to the river because you will be on private property.
Mile 2: A mile after the first drop you will encounter the next significant rapid. This rapid starts off as a boulder garden and the funnels down to about 20 ft wide. At the end it flows over a 4 foot ledge with a rock at the bottom on the right. The ledge is followed by a technical rock garden. Scout and portage on river right, remember to stay close to the river because, once again, you will be on private property.
Mile 3(S-turn Rapid): This rapid is exactly what it is called, a sharp turn left into a sharp turn right. The top of S-turn has a large boulder that separates the flow of the river, take the right channel but beware of the log at the bottom. Scout or portage river right, once again you will be on private property so stay on the bank.
Mile 5(Scotts Mills Pond): This is a great place to take out if you are looking for a shorter day. If you are going to continue to Jacks Bridge take out portage around the dam creating Scotts Mills Pond.
Mile 6.25: About halfway between Scotts Mills and the take out look for another dam to be portaged. The fish ladder on the left can be run, scout it before you decide to run it, or portage river left.
Mile 7.5(Take Out): Take out at Jacks Bridge. |
