| Route 52 Bridge to Dale on the John Day River-North Fork |
| This section of river offers great scenery and fun bouncy class II/III rapids. There is one class V rapid that should be portaged in an open canoe, although it has been run. Because of fallen trees there may be more portages in the upper portion of this river; although it is possible to paddle over the top of a lot of them. The first 30 miles of this run have the best scenery because it has no road access, but the last 10 miles have been heavily mined without concern for the land. |
