This run consists of very challenging, technical class IV+ with a few class V rapids. Because this area is heavily logged, new wood is always an issue on this river, so scouting is a must for every run.
Mile 2: About .5 miles after passing under the first concrete bridge you will arrive at a 8 foot vertical drop followed by a long boulder garden. At some flows this drop is easily run, at higher flows this drop creates a very sticky hydraulic.
Mile 3.6(Kelly Creek): This is a good place to access the river from the road. For the next 4 miles below Kelly Creek you can expect good continuous class II with a class III at the end of the 4 miles. This is a great section for Intermediate boaters.
Mile 7.6(Myrtle Grove Campground): The next 3.1 miles of this section are the most committing because of the near vertical canyon walls. This section consists of challenging pool drop class IV rapids that are difficult to scout.
Mile 10.7(Coal Creek): The last 2.2 miles of this section offer the most demanding rapids on the run. This section contains a few class V rapids and lots of wood, take extreme caution when running this lower portion. |
