| White Bridge Park to East Fork - West Fork on the Hood River |
At medium flows the West fork of the Hood is a challenging class IV run with a friendly pool drop character. When this stretch gets close to, or over 3,000 cfs, this is a great training ground for big water paddling. The beginning of this run offers a good warm up and some good play waves before you hit the big stuff.
Mile 2(Fish Ladder-Portage): At mile 2 you will reach a fish ladder that is a mandatory portage. It is illegal and very dangerous to run this.
Below the fish ladder is a long class IV boulder garden that can be a maze of boulders, or holes depending on flow. The last significant drop on this run is called Punchbowl falls, scout from the road on the shuttle drive. This is an 8-foot ledge drop that creates a very sticky hydraulic at the bottom. If you decide to run this drop hit it with a lot of momentum.
