Difficulty:  Class IV to V 400 - 800 cfs , Class V 800 - 1,500 cfs , Portage

Optimum flow is 1,150 cfs

Season Comments:  April, May, June
Primary Season: 

Usually runs during peak snowmelt season, or after a few days of heavy rain

Permit:  None presently required
Character/Similar To:  Many class III-IV ledgey rapids seperated by calm pools, with a few larger waterfalls ranging from 5 to 15 feet depending on flows. This section of the river flows over a smooth basalt riverbed and through a deep forested canyon.
Hazards:  There are a few drops that should be scouted each run down this section, Sidewinder at the first horizon line, 14 foot Lava Falls about 1 mile after entering the canyon, and at mile 4 the 12 foot drop called Off Ramp.

Location:  In the Pacific Region (WA), 181 miles (3 hours 9 minutes) South of Olympia
Shuttle Logistics: 

Take Out: From the town of White Salmon take Highway 141 north, continue past BZ Corner for 4.7 miles then take a right onto a small dirt road. The take out is a class V hike out just downstream of the bridge.

Put In: From the take out return to Highway 141 and continue north for 3.3 miles. Turn right onto Warner Road and continue 1 mile to the first bridge and put in.
