Season Comments:  January, February, March, April, May, June
Permit:  None presently required.
Character/Similar To:  The first 8 miles are flat but there is a moving current most of the way to "The Rapids," 4 miles of continuous Class III, IV action. High, diagonal ledges, big holes, stoppers and tortuous channels characterize this run.
Hazards:  High water
Water Craft:  kayak,wwcan,raft
Wilderness:  No
Camping on River:  Commercial campgrounds near the New River Gorge. The Garvey Hilton, a makeshift campground near Lookout, is a popular spot for paddlers.
Location:  In the Mid-Atlantic (WV), 68 miles Southeast of Charleston
Shuttle Logistics:  Put-in: Reached from US 60 by driving north on Snake Island Road in East Rainelle and continue for 3 miles. Put-in at the city dump, an unpleasant but easy access.
Take-out: Located on Nutterwood Road which can be found off WV 41.
