| Grassy Knoll Section on the Nenana River |
| The most scenic run of the road access Nenana river sections. The put in is in the shadow of snow speckled Mt. Cleft, at 5924 feet the tallest peak in the immediate area. For most of the way the view back upstream is the wide, opaque Nenana framed by the craggy Panorama Peak on the left with Cleft and Nation Peak looming on the right. Look for the waterfall pouring out from Cleft after rain or during the snowmelt peak and wildlife along the banks of the river. A great section to learn on with swift current, lots of eddy lines and one smaller Class III rapid, Hollywood Hills. At higher water this section also offers up some of the best play on the river. A great run no matter what your skill level with a more laid back aura than the canyon and less flatwater than the Mac Village stretch. If you want a guided inflatable kayak trip, need some beta or are looking for people to paddle with, drop in to Denali Outdoor Center (907) 683-1925, or visit Kayak Alaska great people and the most experienced guides on the river. |
