Take Out: From Bakersfield, drive northeast on California Highway 178. Once in the Kern Canyon you will pass miles of impressive yet unboatable rapids. After the view of these rapids turn left onto a dirt road leading to Democrat Picnic Area. Watch for the signs.
Put In: Continue driving up California Highway 178 and turn left onto California Highway 155 at the town of Lake Isabella. Turn left onto an unpaved road located across the highway from the road leading to the Army Corps of Engineers headquarters and about a quarter mile before Highway 155 crosses the river. Take this road for about a half mile to the put-in. |
