Put-in: To reach Lobatos Bridge, turn west off Colorado 159 about 7 miles north of the New Mexico border onto Colorado 248. Just past Mesita the pavement ends and the main road heads south; 1.3 miles farther turn west towards Lobatos Bridge, 6 miles away.
Take-out: To reach Lee Trail, turn west off New Mexico 522 about 10 miles south of the Colorado border onto Sunshine Valley Road which leads 6 miles to the rim and head of Sunshine Trail. The road turns south for an additional 4 miles; as it ends a sign marks the head of Lee Trail. This difficult take-out more or less rules out rafts unless they plan to run the Upper Box. |
