At high water the upper section turns into a nonstop flush because of the considerable gradient and constricted streambed and Class II-III action continues almost to the take-out. At low flows the first couple of miles consists of technical rock dodging with little action towards the end of the run. |

Put-in: From the take-out in Erwin, Tennessee, take TN Route 30 (10th street) east into the Cherokee National Forest past Rock Creek Campground, into the Unaka Mountains, across the Appalachian Trail at Indian Grave Gap, and down into North Carolina.
Take-out: Erwin is located on US 23/19W. The easiest take-out is near Nolichucky Expeditions south of town. |
