The streambed changes character a few miles downstream from the put-in from a small, technical stream to a large stream that containes long pools followed by forceful drops. At high levels the Big South Fork Gorge is similar to West Virginia's New River Gorge. |

| Shuttle Logistics: |
Put-in: Located on the Clear Fork River 4 miles from its confluence with the New River forming the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River. From US 27 turn east about one half mile south of the New River crossing. Proceed through Mountain View and Black Creek to Crossroads, turn right and drive about a mile to Burnt Mill Bridge.
Take-out: Access from Oneida, Tennessee, by taking Route 297 (Coopertown Road) 5 miles east to Leatherwood Ford Road, the only east-west traverse of the Big South Fork National River Recreation Area. |
